Bob Vitti was raised in the San Fernando Valley through the ’60’s and moved to West Hartford Connecticut to attend High School in 1971. He became interested in photography while in Connecticut and started photographing local bands and hippie culture with his little point and shoot Kodak Instamatic film camera.
Following high school and 2 years at Hartford Community College, Bob returned to California and joined the Navy where he attended Boot Camp in San Diego (1976). After Boot Camp, Bob was sent to New London Connecticut for training at the Submarine Academy.
Bob’s enlistment was a 6 year commitment, with 3 month submarine patrols twice a year out of Holy Loch, Scotland; Rota, Spain and Charleston, South Carolina.
Rota, Spain was his favorite photo spot, with all the ancient architecture, market places, colorful religious ceremonies and the annual Running of the Bulls.
After Bob completed his tour in the US Navy, he returned to Southern California where he began a 40 year career in both Aerospace and Medical Device industries. In addition to his role in the corporate world, Bob also worked weekends as an electrician and carpenter, building decks and patio covers to earn extra cash.
Bob’s passion in life has always been music, photography, motorcycles and backpacking. As an avid keyboard player his bands have played at venues all over the United States and one of his bands is currently in rotation at Gilley’s Dance Hall and Saloon at Treasure Island Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Bob never travels without his cameras and has varied areas of photography interests. The most fun is taking shots on motorcycle and horseback rides, music venues and on the streets. His backpacking trips have recently taken him to the jungles of Nepal, climbing to Mount Everest Base Camp, the streets of Hong Kong and a 10 day backpacking trip with llamas in the Grand Tetons of Wyoming. Bob’s son Jon has accompanied Bob on these excursions, as they equally share a passion for outdoor adventure.
Motorcycle adventures out of Los Angeles include (2) trips to Alaska and Inuvik, Northwest Territories. An annual ride to Rosarito Beach, Mexico. Road trips to gigs in Seattle and El Paso. The entire stretch of the Route 66 Mother Road (Los Angeles to Chicago) with side trips to Cleveland (OH), Lexington (KY), Nashville, (TN) and New Orleans (LA).
Bob lives in Agua Dulce, CA with his wife Sharon on their little 10 acre horse ranch. There they enjoy their horses, dogs and chickens in the quiet solitude of the mountains and canyons of their small town equine community.
